Meta descriptions are often written and approved in a spreadsheet, then delayed by page-by-page implementation. A URL-based CSV workflow can shorten that handoff while preserving review, backups and recovery.
Important: Search engines can choose a different snippet. Description-length thresholds are review rules, not guarantees about display or rankings.
The template contains only URL and Meta Description. Keep each approved description on the same row as its real WordPress URL.
Prepare descriptions for implementation
- Use the live WordPress URL as the row key
- Keep one approved description per URL
- Remove editorial notes and unresolved variants
- Review accidental blanks and duplicated boilerplate
- Export the final sheet as UTF-8 CSV
Step-by-step workflow
1. Freeze the approved values
Separate the final implementation sheet from drafting and stakeholder comments.
2. Export CSV
Convert XLSX or Google Sheets data to CSV because native XLSX is unsupported.
3. Upload and map
Map URL and Meta Description headers before values enter the grid.
4. Check page matches
Resolve any URL that cannot be mapped confidently. Uncertain matches should be skipped rather than guessed.
5. Review Preview
Compare current and proposed descriptions and approve only intended fields.
6. Save, inspect and retain History
Save in chunks with backups, verify representative live metadata, and retain the batch record for recovery.
How to handle missing and duplicate descriptions
Run Find & Fix before or after implementation to identify deterministic missing, duplicate, short and long description findings. Find & Fix is read-only; selected URLs can be handed to Bulk Editor, which reloads live values before editing.
